Concord’s Choice for Dental Bridges
Love Your Smile Again
A dental bridge is a viable option to those who have permanent tooth loss, particularly when you have a missing tooth between two teeth that have already been fitted with dental crowns. However, crowns can be added to existing teeth or dental implants in order to support a dental bridge. Our dentist at Concord Smile will work with you on a personal level to determine whether or not dental implants are a good option. If they are not, we will usually recommend a bridge so you can have the confidence, support, and oral health you need.
Types of Dental Bridges
There are three different types of dental bridges, each having its own benefits. Your dentist will thoroughly examine and evaluate your existing teeth, your overall health, and your wishes in order to come up with a treatment plan that will restore your smile and give you lasting results. The types of dental bridges we will assess you for include:
Traditional: Generally made from porcelain and fused to metal to fit into the mouth, with crowns on the teeth or implants on the sides of the missing tooth.
Cantilever: This is similar to the traditional bridges, except they only use one tooth for the anchor.
Maryland Bonded: These use metal or porcelain frames that are bonded to the existing teeth on both sides of the missing tooth.
Process
With the traditional dental bridges, you will see your dentist who will prepare the anchor teeth to place crowns. If you already have crowns on those teeth, this process will look different, but we will walk you through the process from start to finish so you can feel confident throughout the entire appointment. If you don’t have existing crowns, your dentist will remove some of the enamel on your existing teeth so the crowns can fit seamlessly onto your teeth.
After this has been done, we will make impressions of your teeth so our lab can create an accurate mold for the crowns and bridge. Meanwhile, we will create a temporary bridge for you to wear until the permanent bridge is ready.
Once your permanent bridge has been completed, you will be fitted with your bridge and your dentist will ensure that it fits well, looks natural, gives you a proper bite, and that you are comfortable. You may have to return to our office several times to make sure that your bite is still accurate and that your bridge is maintaining its integrity. After a few weeks of the bridge fitting properly, we will cement it into place.
